Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus, Sarawak (UPMKB) is not a new name as a higher education destination in the country, as it is the oldest campus in the state of Sarawak. The history of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus began at its temporary campus at the Natural Resources Training Centre, Semenggok, Kuching on 10 August 1974. The campus moved to its permanent location in Bintulu, Sarawak in June 1987.

On 27 August 1987, Universiti Pertanian Malaysia Sarawak was officially established as a branch campus through the Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (No. 2) Order 1987, under three Centres of Study – the Centre for Applied Sciences, the Centre for Foundation Sciences, and the Centre for Social Sciences and Management. These centres offered three diploma-level programmes, namely Diploma in Agriculture, Diploma in Forestry, and Diploma in Agribusiness, in addition to one preparatory programme.

UPMKB is located 13 km from Bintulu town, surrounded by lush greenery rich in flora and fauna. The campus covers an area of 714.178 hectares and can accommodate up to 2,800 students.
