Tan Sri Aishah Ghani College

A historic moment marking a significant date began on 22 July 1997 with the establishment of a new residential college, namely the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Matriculation College, better known as KOMAT. Serving as a platform for students to reside in a residential college at one of Malaysia’s premier public institutions of higher learning, students were also given the opportunity to acquire knowledge and expand their horizons to higher levels in their chosen fields of study.

The initial administration of the college was managed by the Centre for Matriculation Studies, with the first intake of students commencing on 15 August 1997. As the founding principal, Mr. Mohamad Azmi Sulong successfully managed the college efficiently and effectively together with 17 appointed staff members.

After the Ministry of Education Malaysia took over the management of the Matriculation Programme in 2000, beginning with the May 2000/2001 session, the college was opened to students from various diploma programmes. Today, this beloved college has been renamed College Thirteen, and the name Matriculation College (KOMAT) remains only as a memory.

Since July 2019, College Thirteen has been merged with Kolej Mohammad Rashid (KMR) as part of UPM’s Governance Transformation programme. This change brought new development to the image and identity of College Thirteen.

As the years pass, they mature us in all aspects of management. College Thirteen has undergone gradual changes in terms of administration and the handling of college affairs. The quality demonstrated by the management reflects their efficiency in implementing systems in an orderly and effective manner.

The leadership helm has also undergone changes beginning in 2001, led successively by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Ismail, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Zakaria Hussin, Y.M. Dr. Tengku Azam Shah Tengku Mohammad, Associate Prof. Dr. Arifin Abdu, and Associate Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Shukri Muhammad Noor. On 8 June 2022, the Universiti Putra Malaysia Board of Directors agreed to rename College Thirteen as Kolej Tan Sri Aishah Ghani. Effective 1 April 2024, Dr. Daljit Singh Karam Singh was appointed as the new Principal of Kolej Tan Sri Aishah Ghani.
